Fiat to announce cooperation with BMW, Alfa 149 to be based on 1-Series

According to CARandDRIVER, Fiat is expected to make an announcement about future cooperation with German automaker BMW. The two companies have been talking about sharing a platform for the upcoming Alfa Romeo 149 hatchback.

Insiders say that Fiat is interested in using BMW’s 1-Series platform or the next-generation MINI Cooper platform for the compact Alfa. Will Chrysler also get a hand in all this? Only time will tell - but according to Chrysler Vice Chairman and President, if Chrysler LLC toughs it out of its current financial problems the brand could be a competitor to Germany’s elite brands including Mercedes-Benz and BMW.

It has been previously reported that the Alfa Romeo 149 will be a sexier version of the already good-looking Alfa Romeo MiTo.
